“What Is This I Hear About Vaulting?”

Learn balance, coordination and confidence on the horse! Vaulting is a fun, different way to enjoy horses, no matter your ability level.

Vaulting is a traditional instructional method whereby the horse, with student mounted, moves in circle on a long line held by the teacher. By eliminating the need to steer and control the horse, the student can concentrate on balance, relaxation and finding a rhythmic connection to the equine. Vaulting practice is rewarding for people of all ages and abilities who wish to ride with grace and comfort.

At Pony Farm, we have several sizes of vaulting horses and ponies to meet the needs of students of all ages. The only dress requirements are loosely fitting pants such as sweat pants or fleece leggings and soft shoes such as tennis shoes or water shoes. Hard hats (available for your use at the farm) will be worn and clothing suitable for whatever weather is to come down the pike is advised.

Lessons will take place first on a stationary Vaulting Barrel and then on a horse which is standing still. As Vaulters gain confidence, the various mounted positions will be done at the walk, trot or canter. Vaulting can be done while sitting on the moving horse, as well as kneeling, lying down and standing up. It may also be done one, two or three at a time, depending on the size and prowess of the Vaulters. Join us to try your hand at vaulting.
